HOCKEY: A WINNING start was made to the second half of Rugby & East Warwickshire Men’s 1st season, defeating Bridgnorth 8-3.

Rugby dominated the opening five minutes of the game, scoring twice as Stuart Jones and Chris Graham found the back of the net.

A third goal before the end of the first half extended Rugby’s lead, though Bridgnorth refused to admit defeat and clawed back into the game – making it 3-1 at half time.

Chris Graham wrapped up his hat-trick during the second half while Szymon Oszyjczyk and Ben Kluth were also on target as Rugby ran out eventual 8-3 winners.

Meanwhile a strong performance from Danny Bell in goal proved not enough for Rugby 2nds as they lost 2-1 to Beeston.

Kristian Brown scored Rugby’s single goal from close-range, though the marker came just five minutes before time and proved to be too little too late.

The 3rd’s fixture against Cannock was postponed while the 4th’s struggled to naintain their one goal advantage on multiple occasions and eventually lost 4-3.

Despite taking the lead three times, a late effort from Cannock 4th’s earned them a hard-fought victory.

There was good news for Rugby 5th’s who won 1-0 against West Bridgford while the 6th’s lost out 4-1 to Saints.
