FOOTBALL: RUGBY Town U7s triumphed in their home festival but had to dig deep to beat some strong teams on their way to victory.
The group stage saw them beat Coventry Jaguar 4-0 before a tense 0-0 draw with Baginton Lions, which could have gone either way.
A further 0-0 draw with Hillmorton was followed by a 5-0 victory over CTK and runners up spot.
Tigers were matched against Alvis for the quarter final stage.
Both teams failed to score during regular time, forcing the match to penalties.
A solid save from Max handed Tigers a 5-4 victory after Alex, Arjan, Gabriel, Henry and Max all netted.
The strongly fancied Solihull Moors faced Tigers in the semi final – and the home side took the lead through an excellent strike from Max early on.
Solihull equalised moments later though, and again the game was forced to penalties – which Rugby won 5-4.
The Final against Baginton was a great end to end match with both teams creating chances.
Baginton took the lead, but Max’s late strike saw the game finish 1-1 – forcing a third dose of penalties.
The Tigers won 4-2 when they scored all four taken, with Baginton missing twice.
The entire Tigers team had to work so hard for their success, with great goalkeeping performances from Alex, Gabriel and Arjan, whilst Henry and Max ran themselves into the ground and Fin making telling contributions.
