HOCKEY: THERE were celebrations for Rugby & East Warwickshire after they beat Stone on the road 3-1 to win promotion to the Midland Premier Division.
After a ten minute woe at the start of the first half with Chris Thomas keeping Stone at bay with a series of fine saves, Rugby began to play great hockey and started to become a dominant force.
The first goal came from a run from influential Stuart Jones from inside his own half into the D and his shot was pounced on by Chris Graham to find the back of the net.
It remained 1-0 at the break despite the visitors controlling most of the play but they were able to up the tempo in the second half and soon increased their lead.
Chris graham scored his trademark left post deflection and Stuart Jones scored with a drag flick shot into the bottom corner.
Even though Stone scored after a heated moment led to lapse in concentration, Rugby maintained their discipline to end the game on a high but they were unable to add to their lead.
