Lions and Tigers roar to cup double for Borough

TWO of Rugby Borough’s junior teams came of age to lift two titles in convincing style.

The under-tens Lions tore apart Copsewood Cannons 7-1 in an assured performance in the TE Cup final, helped by Harveer Singh Chadha’s four-goal showing.

Goals flew in from all angles, with Joel Holland, Cormac McGuigan and Zac Fatania also registering on the scoresheet, while George Pryor proved a wall between the sticks for Borough – albeit letting one strike evade him.

Elsewhere, the under-tens Tigers have made an assured start to the season after coming out triumphant in the under-tens Autumn Trophy.

Despite being drawn in a tough group, Rugby saw off Daventry Town 9-4, CTK Reds 4-2 and battled to a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Coventry Sporting 2-2 to progress to the knockout rounds unbeaten.

A narrow 2-1 win against Coventry Alvis pitted Borough against Coventry Sphinx in the final, where the Tigers won by the same scoreline to secure silverware.

Lewis Fox put Borough in front after finishing from a corner, before Gabriel Solomon doubled the lead to put the Tigers in command.

Although Sphinx did pull a goal back, some resolute defending ensured that the trophy headed back to Rugby.
