Chris Harris signs of with third place finish at Brandon

OUTGOING Coventry Bees skipper Chris Harris signed off with a rostrum finish in Saturday’s Elite League Riders’ Championship at Brandon.

Harris had to be content with third place on the night behind meeting winner Fredrik Lindgren and runner-up Niels-Kristian Iversen, but it was a good effort from the Bees captain after a tough start to the meeting.

Harris only had one point from his first two rides, but a hard-fought second place over Lindgren in Heat 10 got his night moving, and he finished his qualifying races with two good wins.

That put him into the semi-final where he chased Iversen home ahead of Kim Nilsson and Coventry team-mate Danny King, to join surprise meeting leader Edward Kennett and Lindgren in the Final.

With no choice of gate, Harris found himself on the inside and briefly that looked the place to be as Lindgren and Iversen contested the first bend with Harris getting in front by holding the inside – but his rivals shot either side of him on the back straight as Lindgren took the advantage.

There was frustration for Kennett who finished fourth after dropping just one point from his five qualifying races and clocking a series of fast times.

King, meanwhile, edged into the semi-final on countback after scoring eight points but being placed in front of Robert Lambert and Kyle Newman,

He had started strongly with five points from his first two rides, and Lambert’s third place in Heat 20 handed him a route into the semi, but he was unable to make up ground from the back.

Harris said: “It’s a nice way to finish off here riding for Coventry and getting third place – it would have been good to win, but we’ll get there one day!

“I thought I might have it in the Final but I left that little hole which Freddie saw, and then he was gone, but that’s racing.”
