Borough's Vase hopes crumble after shoot-out heartache

Rugby Editorial 16th Dec, 2019   0

RUGBY Borough crashed out of the Birmingham Saturday Vase after an agonising penalty shoot-out defeat away to current holders Tipton Town on Saturday.

Ady Fuller’s side played out a 3-3 draw in normal time after twice recovering from being two goals down against the West Midlands (Regional) League outfit.

Connor Scott netted twice during the first half en route to an eventual hat-trick, with Tom Rawlings pulling a goal back for Borough before the break with a smart finish.

Tipton’s chief marksman wrapped up his treble early in the second half, restoring the hosts’ two-goal advantage.

But two late goals from Josh Turton and Ryan Coyle ensured the game went the distance, albeit with Rugby on the losing side of a 5-3 scoreline in the shootout.

Rugby hope to quickly put their woes behind them when visiting table-topping Allexton & New Parks on Saturday (3pm), the club’s final fixture of the calendar year.

Borough are fifth in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division at present but have a number of games in hand on the sides above them.
