RUGBY Swimming Club’s artistic swimmers enjoyed further success at the prestigious National Age Group Championships.
The club won two gold and three bronze medals competing at the London Aquatics Centre – the venue for the swimming events at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Rugby enjoyed a fine start to the competition by securing four of the top-eight places in the youth category of the highly competitive figure event.
And Frankie Klym earned bronze to claim Rugby’s first medal of the Championships in a field featuring more than 100 swimmers.
In the 12 and under category, Catherine Yu provided Rugby’s best placement as she finished 32nd in a strong field.
And in the 12 and under duet, Lottie Wilkins and Sophie Croft delivered a confident performance to finish eighth overall.
Rugby’s youth combo team just missed out on the podium with their ‘Beetlejuice’ routine after finishing fourth.
The team of Saranne Black, Mellinda Bogdanova, Lucy Gates, Amelie Jeary, Darcey Townsend and Isobelle Watkins produced their best swim to date, improving on their recent regional performance.
Rugby enjoyed more success the following day as Molly Dollin’s strong swim saw her finish fourth in the youth solo event.
And Keva Ennis delivered a flawless routine with zero base marks to claim bronze in her first year at the age category.
In the youth duet competition, Lola Huett and Klym entered the routine event as leaders following the figure results the previous day.
And the pair produced a stunning performance to secure the national title and become champions in their category.
Rugby’s 12 and under free team of Wilkins, Croft, Caitlin-Rose Smith, Amelia Storr, Elsa Gaskin, Yu, Izzy Maglione and Seren Humphry overcame a sixth-place figure ranking to claim bronze.
And Rugby’s youth free team of Huett, Klym, Doolin and Ennis also performed to ‘Beetlejuice’ and secured gold with the highest routine score in their category.
The club also welcomed the mayor of Rugby Coun Simon Ward to a training session at the The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre.
The mayor saw the swimmers in action and congratulated the athletes on their recent success.
