AN ENTERTAINING 4-4 draw at Northampton Saints on Saturday keeps Rugby & East Warwickshire Hockey Club fourth in the Midland Premier Division.

The game started slowly with Northampton on top but a foul on Rugby forward Szymon Oszyjczyk when through on goal led to a penalty flick being conceded and Oszyjczyk duly dispatched to take his tally for the season to 22.

Rugby soon doubled their lead when a penalty corner was converted into the lower left side of the net by Szymon again.

Chris Thomas in the Rugby goal kept the score at 2-0 with a series of fine saves but the hosts halved the deficit through a well taken reverse stick from the left-hand side of the D.

Rugby’s two-goal advantage was shortly restored with another penalty corner however Northampton hit back again just before the break to make it 3-2.

The rain intensified into the second half and Rugby started slowly conceding twice within the first 15 minutes.

As the game drew to a close it started opening with both sides finding lots of space.

Rugby equalised through another short corner and both sides spurned opportunities to clinch the game in the final minutes but 4-4 proved to be a fair result.
