Rugby bowlers on form to make it three wins on the bounce

FINE bowling displays by Owen Edwards and Vishaal Rathod saw Rugby on their way to a third successive victory in Warwickshire County Cricket League Premier Division.

Rugby were able to beat Solihull Municipal’s 122 after 38 overs, keeping them in sixth and in touch with the top five in the league.

Meanwhile, a walkover in Monday’s scheduled match with Olton & West Warwick sent Rugby through to the quarter-final of the WCCL T20 tournament, setting up an away tie with Bedworth.

In Saturday’s league game, visitors Solihull made an unconvincing start at 32-2, and were quickly in a precarious position after the introduction of seamer Rathod (3-28).

Edwards (3-17) then skittled out several of Municipal’s middle order, including Solihull’s top scorer James Roslyn (32), to restrict the visitors.

In reply, Lee James (11) and Jeevan Barhey (11) notched an opening partnership of 24, before suffering a middle order collapse in similar fashion to Solihull. Municipal’s Alex Roslyn (5-31) was the instigator for Rugby’s downfall, though Rathod’s (32) introduction at number eight helped revive the innings when hitting 42 with George Terry (17) for the seventh wicket.

Though both were out at 108-8, the duo of Lee Golding (12) and Edwards (8) carried Rugby to victory, ahead of a trip to bottom club Standard (Coventry) on Saturday (noon).
