RUGBY’S Lauren Henry has earned a place in the Great Britain squad for the upcoming World Rowing Cup in Varese, Italy.

Henry recently won European Championship gold in the women’s single sculls event in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The 23-year-old set a European best time and British record in the heats before storming to victory in the semi-final and final to take gold.

Britain have selected 48 athletes for the World Rowing Cup which takes place from June 13 to 15.

British Rowing director, Louise Kingsley said: “The European Championships in Plovdiv were very successful for Great Britain with six gold medals won and European, World and British records broken.

“There were some tight races which came right down to the line and made for edge-of- the-seat entertainment.

“I expect we will see more of the same in Varese, especially with nations from across the world joining the racing circuit for the first time this cycle.

“With this back-to-back block of racing, we are looking forward to seeing how these nations have moved on over the winter and how the European nations build on from Plovdiv.”

Henry will again compete in the single sculls event.

She won Olympic gold in the quadruple sculls event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Henry is also a former World and European champion in the quadruple sculls event.
