LAUREN Henry won World Rowing Cup III gold representing Great Britain in Lucerne, Switzerland.
The Rugby-born rower won the women’s single sculls event by more than four seconds after producing a blistering final 500 metres.
Henry crossed the line in a time of 7 minutes 33.18 seconds as Ireland’s Fiona Murtagh took silver and Australia’s Tara Rigney claimed bronze.
Henry said: “I’m really pleased. I really liked the way I rowed that race, I was very internal.
“I’d like to have a solid training camp in Varese this year.
“I want to keep enjoying my rowing because that’s when I go fastest.”
Murtagh led the way over the first half of the course before Henry kicked to create clear water between herself and her closest rival.
Henry maintained the gap between the two rowers to the finish to claim her second World Cup gold medal this year.
Britain won a total of six gold medals at the World Cup, along with a silver and a bronze, to top the medal table.
British Rowing’s interim performance director, Tom Dyson said: “The team was exceptional. It is a special day when British crews hold a presence on the podium across seven consecutive races.
“It is also special to have a first Paralympic class win in Lucerne, and credit to the four team members who won their first World Rowing Cup medals.”
