Robins chirpy after Sky Blues go five unbeaten

A DOMINANT Sky Blues display against Rotherham United gave manager Mark Robins plenty of reasons to be cheerful, after a 3-1 win at St Andrew’s extended Coventry City’s unbeaten run to five games.

In the second victory during that run, first-half goals from Maxime Biamou and Tyler Walker put City in control, before Leo Skiri Østigård bolstered the impressive scoreline in the Second City – rendering Daniel Barlaser’s 85th-minute penalty nothing more than scant consolation.

With 19th-placed Coventry making up ground on a cluster of sides directly above them in the Championship table – whilst pushing them six points clear of the relegation places ahead of Tuesday night’s home game with Luton Town – Robins came away from Saturday’s encounter with mostly positive sentiments.

“It was a strong, physically, tactically good performance – we were brilliant,” he said.

“We defended behind the two strikers who led the line fantastically well, they had good chances to score – which they took – the first two goals were outstanding.

“Their goalkeeper kept them in the game, we were disappointed to be going in at half-time just two-nil up because of the pressure we put them under, the only downside was the penalty we gave away [at the end] that they scored.

“They can be forgiven for that because the amount of pressure that Rotherham put on us – they’re a good side – a really difficult side to play against and we stood up to that challenge and played some really good stuff on the other side of it.”

And the City boss had plenty of time for a Rotherham side managed by Paul Warne – a former team-mate when the pair both turned out for the Millers in the early noughties.

“When they’ve done the work that they’ve done the work that they’ve done to keep their chances down to very, very few, they need to be given the plaudits they deserve,” said Robins.

“It’s very difficult to play against them, if you switch off once, it gives them an opportunity to get something and unfortunately for us they got the penalty.

“They’ve got some talent, they were in this league the year before last, they’ve got some players that have played at this level before, a lot more games than some of our players have had and they’ve very difficult to play against.”
