KIMBERLEY Woods won kayak cross bronze representing Great Britain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Woods, from Rugby, claimed her second medal of the Games after also winning bronze in the women’s kayak single event.
The 28-year-old took bronze behind France’s Angele Hug who won silver and Australia’s Noemie Fox who claimed gold after Germany’s Elena Lilik was disqualified.
Woods said: “I thought I was fourth but I guess luck was on my side.
“I’m really proud that I came away with another bronze medal. I had to congratulate Noemie straight away because we’re all on this journey together.
“We’re all really good friends and it’s amazing to see people you enjoy paddling with take medals.
“Kayak cross has had its ups and downs over the years. People have criticised it and called it silly but come here, come to a world championship, because it’s absolutely incredible. The atmosphere is insane, it’s such an amazing sport to be a part of. Just give it a go. Hopefully this Games will inspire people to take up the sport.
“There’s so much to kayak cross. I got off to an amazing start and you have all the technical elements of going round the poles and the eskimo roll but you also have to deal with three other people.
“I’m enjoying every single minute of it. I’m just proud to represent Team GB and everyone at home and I’m really thankful I can use my platform to showcase this amazing sport.”
In pursuit of gold medallist Fox, Woods became stuck at a gate which allowed the other finalists to pull away.
However, Lilik’s disqualification for not going through gate two correctly meant Woods secured bronze.
