CAIRO Taylor scored a late equaliser as Rugby Town twice came from behind to draw 2-2 against Basford United.

Taylor rescued a point for Valley two minutes from time after Stan Anaebonam had earlier restored parity at Greenwich Avenue.

That came after Jack Goodman’s early goal put Basford ahead before Curtis Durose restored the home side’s lead after the break.

The result means Valley drop back into the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone, one point from safety but with a game in-hand on the team above them.

Basford broke the deadlock after just four minutes as Goodman pounced on some lapse defending to fire a shot towards goal which beat Marcus Bald at his near post.

However, Rugby equalised on 13 minutes when Anaebonam ran from inside his own half, after superbly beating his marker, and coolly finished past Basford goalkeeper Matt Yates

The home side reclaimed the lead four minutes into the second period as Durose lashed a shot into the roof of the net from 12-yards out.

However, Valley drew level for a second time on 88 minutes when substitute Taylor volleyed home from 10-yards out after Basford failed to deal with Harrison Nee’s cross from the left.

Rugby are next in action against Sutton Coldfield Town on Tuesday, October 14 with kick-off at 7.45pm Coles Lane.
