RUGBY Town produced a stunning second-half comeback to beat divisional rivals Belper Town 3-2 and advance in the FA Trophy.
Valley trailed by two goals at the break as Jonathan Wafula and Jacob Fenton put the visitors in command at Butlin Road.
However, a brace from Callum Griffin restored parity before Stan Anaebonam completed a dramatic turnaround.
Belper broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when Wafula headed in Kevin Bastos’s chipped cross at the back post.
And the visitors doubled their lead with a near carbon-copy goal on 31 minutes as Fenton headed in another Bastos cross.
However, Valley halved the deficit five minutes after half time when Griffin saw his effort parried into the net by Belper goalkeeper Kieran Preston from Caine Elliott’s nod down.
And Griffin drew the home side level in style on 72 minutes with an audacious lob over the goalkeeper from distance after he spotted Preston off his line.
Valley turned the game on its head just two minutes later as Anaebonam produced a cool finish from Nathan Kabeya’s cross-field pass.
Anaebonam celebrated in style by donning a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mask as Valley held on to reach the third round qualifying stage for the first time in 21 years.
Rugby are next in action against Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday, September 23 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Townsend Meadow.
