RUGBY Town secured just their second away win of the season following a 2-0 victory away at Coventry Sphinx.

Valley took an early lead courtesy of Daniele Reka’s goal before Jahvan Davidson-Miller sealed the points after the break at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.

The result means Rugby are now one point from safety in the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone.

Rugby broke the deadlock after just eight minutes when Caine Elliott hooked a ball into the path of Reka who capitalised on some slack defending to finish past Charlie Woods.

However, Reka suffered a suspected broken arm later in the first half as Harry Wakefield and Idriss Fuseini fired off target for the home side.

Sphinx searched for a leveller after the break although Valley remained a threat as Dan Summerfield saw his curling effort from distance saved by Woods.

And Valley doubled their lead on 67 minutes when Davidson-Miller controlled Trey Charles’ early cross from the left and sent a low effort into the bottom corner from 20-yards out.

The home side had a succession of corners and long throws thereafter as Valley held firm.

And goalkeeper Paul Hathaway made a smart save to keep out Callum Woodward’s free-kick before Josh Thomas made a superb block to deny substitute Harvey Smith.

Rugby are next in action against Grantham Town on Saturday, March 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
