TREY Charles scored a late equaliser as 10-man Rugby Town rescued a point in a 1-1 draw against fellow strugglers Grantham Town.

Charles levelled the game two minutes from time at Butlin Road after Lewis Darlington’s strike put the visitors ahead at Butlin Road.

Valley rescued a point despite new signing Shay Willock seeing red for the home side on 74 minutes.

The result means Rugby sit 19th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table inside the relegation zone on goal difference.

In a first-half of few chances, visiting goalkeeper James Leverton twice denied Jahvan Davidson-Miller.

However, Grantham took control of the game after the break and broke the deadlock just seven minutes after the interval.

Darlington bundled the ball home from close range after Valley goalkeeper Paul Hathaway could only parry Sam Tomlinson’s deflected low cross into the striker’s path.

The visitors had chances to extend their lead as Hathaway made a series of saves to deny both Tomlinson and Darlington.

Rugby went close to an equaliser as Davidson-Miller smashed an effort against the underside of the crossbar.

And Willock then picked up two yellow cards in quick succession to leave the home side down to 10-men for the final quarter-hour.

However, Valley drew level on 88 minutes as Charles finished Bodi Thistleton’s cross.

And Charles had a chance to win the game for the hosts only to drag a shot wide of the post in injury time.

Rugby are next in action against Long Eaton United on Saturday, March 29 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
