LEO Stone’s early goal helped Rugby Borough claim a point in a 1-1 draw away at high-flying Belper Town.

Stone put Borough ahead after just five minutes at the Raygar Stadium only for Jacob Fenton to draw the home side level midway through the first half.

The result means Rugby sit eighth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, one point outside of the play-off places.

Borough made the perfect start when Stone swept home Aaron Nuttall’s low ball into the box from close range.

However, Belper equalised on 24 minutes as Fenton powered a header past Brandon Ganley from Ben Rhodes cross from the right.

Ganley then denied Liam Moran from close range while the home side failed to find the net from a goalmouth scramble shortly before the break.

A bizarre moment in the second half saw Borough substitute Stacey Freeman pick up the ball with his hands after he thought he was fouled.

He received a yellow card for the offence with Belper unable to capitalise from the resulting free-kick.

Belper had a goal disallowed later in the second half with neither side able to find a winner in the remaining minutes.

Rugby are next in action against Anstey Nomads on Saturday, November 8 with kick-off at 3pm at Kilsby Lane.
