DANICO Johnson netted a brace as Rugby Town secured a fifth successive victory in all competitions with a 3-1 win against Newport Pagnell at Butlin Road.

Johnson opened the scoring after just 10 minutes before he doubled his tally in the 68th minute to seal another impressive win for the home side.

David Kolodynski scored what proved to be the winning goal on 17 minutes after Danny Webb had equalised for Newport five minutes earlier.

Victory means Rugby remain sixth in the United Counties League Premier Division South table after inflicting Newport’s first league defeat in seven matches.

And Johnson kick-started Rugby’s win when he planted a header past the Newport keeper from Luke English’s right wing cross.

However, the visitors drew level just two minutes later when Webb scored in off the post after being played clean through on goal.

Rugby then reclaimed the lead in sensational style when Kolodynski curled a stunning effort into the top corner.

Newport missed a golden chance to equalise when Kieran Barnes missed a penalty after Ash Bodycote had fouled Webb inside the box.

And Johnson made the away side pay for that penalty miss in the second-half when he finished from close range from Kolodynski’s pass after a sublime raking ball by Caine Elliott.

Rugby are next in action against GNG Oadby Town on Saturday, December 4 with kick-off at 2pm at Oaks Park.
