HILLMORTON suffered penalty heartbreak after they were beaten in the Advertiser Cup final by Community Relations Club (CRC) in a shootout.
Steve Heighton’s side fought back from two goals down to take the game to penalties only for the post to keep out Hillmorton’s fifth penalty as they were beaten 5-4 in the shootout at Rugby Town’s Butlin Road.
Hillmorton saw two mistakes punished by CRC in the first half as Joel Dawes and Evaristo de Melo struck only for Dominic Gallacher’s cross to go straight in and reduce the deficit at the break.
And Hillmorton drew level through Charlie Watson in the second period in an end-to-end game with neither team able to find a winner which sent the tie to a shootout.
Both teams converted their first four penalties before a Hillmorton player hit the post and Richard Simkin scored the decisive spot kick to hand CRC the trophy.
Heighton said: “This was a great advert for local football especially with us basically being a youth team against men and in the end it took the width of a post. It was a terrific game.”
