GRANT Joshua felt Rugby Town looked like an ‘attacking force’ in their home win against Lichfield City.
Valley ended a four-game winless run with a 3-2 victory at Butlin Road as debutant Kobi Bivens scored a second-half winner.
A Callum Griffin own goal put Lichfield ahead only for Rivel Mardenborough and Caine Elliott to turn the game in Rugby’s favour before Harvey Smith levelled the game for Lichfield.
The result means Rugby sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, five points above the relegation zone.
And Joshua praised his side’s attacking intent but felt a more clinical display would have put the result beyond doubt.
Joshua said: “We spoke a lot with the players in the build-up about what a home performance should look like from a Rugby Town team.
“There are still bits to work on defensively, but as an attacking force, I’m really pleased.
“We looked a problem to deal with, and if we’d been more clinical in the last 10 to 15 minutes, it wouldn’t and shouldn’t have looked that close a game.
“I’m delighted for Kobi. This kid doesn’t get flustered, he can really finish and his all-round game was quality too.
“We’ve played some really good football, but we know it’s only three points and we’ll have to work equally as hard this week in training and then deliver that same attacking performance against Basford.”
Next up for Rugby is a home game against Basford United who head into the clash unbeaten in their last 12 matches which includes seven draws.
Joshua is sweating on the fitness of Geoffrey Lundoloki who limped off in the win against Lichfield.
Teenager Archie Murray replaced Lundoloki after the former joined Valley on a work experience loan from Northampton Town.
And former Loughborough Students and Anstey Nomads midfielder Drew Lowe has also signed to bolster Joshua’s squad.
Rugby host Basford on Saturday, January 31 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
