FOOTBALL - Charles brace earns Rugby Town FA Cup replay against Hednesford

TREY Charles scored a brace as Rugby Town earned an FA Cup replay against Hednesford Town following a 2-2 draw in Second Round Qualifying.

Charles drew Valley level on 76 minutes after earlier opening the scoring at Butlin Road while Manny Duku also netted a brace for the visitors.

The draw means Rugby are in the hat for the Third Round Qualifying draw which takes place on Monday, September 16 at 1pm.

Rugby took the lead on 37 minutes when Charles’ inswinging corner from the right went directly into the net.

However, Hednesford drew level in first-half injury time as Duku finished at the back post after Elliott Johnson flicked on a corner from the right.

Valley almost reclaimed the lead early in the second period when Harrison Nee’s shot crashed against the crossbar.




Hednesford completed the turnaround on 67 minutes as Duku rose highest to head in Rob Stevenson’s floated cross from the right.

However, Valley forced a replay on 76 minutes when Charles sent a superb volley into the net from Ethan O’Toole’s initial corner.


The replay takes place on Tuesday, September 17 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Keys Park.
