Efficient display sends REWHC's ladies fourth

Rugby Editorial 13th Dec, 2019   0

RUGBY & East Warwickshire’s ladies’ first team are fourth in Midlands Premier Division after seeing off Sutton Coldfield 3-0.

Kirby Harris struck a brace, while Nicki Siarbawa also netted in a ruthless display of finishing.

The ladies’ second XI are also up to fourth in Division One of the Warwickshire Women’s Hockey League after edging Hampton’s first team in a 3-2 thriller, thanks to two goals from Evie Phillips and one for Evie Scutt.

Meanwhile, a 2-0 win for the third string propels them to third in Division Three, overtaking opponents Long Buckby 2nds.

Nuneaton 3rds were victors by a single goal in their Division Four clash with the ladies’ fourth team, meaning Rugby drop to eighth in the table.

A 6-2 drubbing was handed out by the University of Nottingham’s second team to Rugby & EW’s men’s first team in Midlands Division One.

Adam Hewitt and Rich Major were both on target for Rugby but the hosts were unable to live with the pace and power of the students side.

The men’s 2nds’ struggles continued with a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Harborne 5ths in Division Two, while the 3rds went down 4-0 to Nottingham Players in East Midlands Premier.

Some cheer was provided by the fifth string’s 4-0 blitz of Atherstone Adders 3rds in South East Division Two. Will Bradley-Ferris scored a brace, and Tom Watkins and Giles Morrison were also on target.
