WILLOUGHBY CC comfortably beat Yelvertoft by 75 runs to secure their first win of the season of the Northamptonshire Cricket League season.

The visitors were all out for 232 in 45 overs in the Division Seven clash as Hassan Nawaz (64) top scored for Willoughby whilst Ashley Rayner retired on 49 not out.

And Willoughby bowled well after removing openers Adrian Ratnayake (34) and Satya Sanikommu (15) with only Aaron Ellis (22) scoring double figures in the middle order.

Yelvertoft’s Andrew O’Neill hit an impressive 52 not out as David Alcock (2-17), Mark Fell (2-22) and Callum Hanks (2-46) all taking two wickets apiece.

That came after Willoughby were beaten by five wickets against Mears Ashby last weekend.

Willoughby’s 2nd XI were edged out by two runs in their heated Division 13 match against Abington Phoenix.

Abington scored 183-9 from their 40 overs as Subash Manuel finished on 100 not out with John Gregson (4-29) the pick of the Willoughby bowlers.

And the home side looked well placed to reach the required total on 127-5 thanks to 32 from James Andrews who top scored for Willoughby.

However, despite Ryan Perry’s 26, Willoughby fell two runs short of the total to finish on 181-8 from their 40 overs.

Willoughby’s 1st XI host Brigstock CC’s 2nd XI on Saturday, May 21 with the toss at midday (12pm) at The Green.

And Willoughby’s 2nd XI travel to Bold Dragoon CC on the same day at the same time at Bold Dragoon Cricket Club.
