CRICKET - Willoughby ease to victory against Rushton

WILLOUGHBY CC made light work of Rushton to secure a comfortable eight-wicket win after they skittled their opponents for 86 in the Northamptonshire Cricket League Division Seven.

Ben Hollis won the toss and elected to bowl first on a green wicket which Rushton’s batters struggled to score runs off.

A run out broke Rushton’s early resistance as Vikas Sangwan (3-26) and Stuart Bonthuys (4-10) accounted for the home side’s middle order with ease.

The hosts were bowled our for a measly 86 although Willoughby stuttered in their reply after losing both Chait Kurusala and Ashley Rayner early on.




However, teenage pair Callum Hanks and Ambrose Deery saw Willoughby home with ease as they reached the required total with less than 15 overs of the 45 available used.

In Division 13, Willoughby’s 2nd XI also tasted victory with a six-wicket triumph over Northampton Saints 3rds.


Saints made a slow start to their innings before dangerman Jack Bates was run out on 25 and struggled to up the run rate.

They eventually finished on 125-7 from their 40 overs as Fergus Deery (3-37) and Matthew Sutton (2-23) impressed with the ball.

Willoughby eased to the required total as Ian Andrews and Sean Thornton put on 56 runs for the second wicket after losing Martyn Norman was trapped lbw.

Andrews would go on to reach his half century as Willougby clinched victory on 128-4 in just 22 overs.
