BOURTON and Frankton CC suffered their heaviest defeat of the season so far after falling to a 116-run friendly loss against Marton at The Field.

The visitors batted first and recovered from the loss of some early wickets to reach 264-7 at the end of their innings.

Opener Rubans Sugartharubans starred with the bat with a fine knock of 96, falling just short of a century, and was supported by Jay Singh’s equally impressive 81.

George Smith (3-67) mopped up Marton’s tail end after Karl Quinney (2-26) made some early inroads with Stuart McQuillan (2-29) also amongst the wickets.

Bourton’s reply started badly with the hosts reduced to 20-3, missing three of their regular top order batters.

Only Michael Waller (17) and G Smith (13) made double figures in the top order before James Playdon’s fine 72, which included nine boundaries, added some substance to the home side’s innings.

Malcolm Smith (20) was the only other Bourton batter to reach double digits as they were bowled out for just 148 in 32.3 overs some 116 runs short of the required total.

Bourton are next in action at home to Rugby CC on Sunday, July 31 with the action set to begin at 1.30pm at The Field.
