KIMBERLEY Woods won kayak bronze representing Great Britain at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships.
The Rugby athlete won Britian’s third medal at the event which took place in Oklahoma, United States of America.
The 30-year-old took bronze in the women’s K1 kayak final with a blistering run of 94.91 seconds.
Woods finished on the podium despite picking up a two-second penalty at gate 21.
And Woods finished just 2.85 seconds behind America’s world champion Jessica Fox while USA’s Evy Leibfarth took silver.
Woods said: “I’m a bit gutted about my touch but to go out there and enjoy myself and to bring home another medal, I feel really proud for the team, but also for myself and my family at home.
“I weirdly have mixed emotions having had my touch and coming third but I am really happy to get back-to-back World Championships medals, last year in Penrith and to back it up with a bronze medal I feel really proud of myself.
“I was a bit scatter brain warming up because I lost my shoes but everything was in place when I got to the start line
“I think my teammate accidently took my shoes by mistake and went back to the hotel so there was a bit of panic mood but we have got a really good team behind us that were on it and got my shoes back in time before my run.
“Thankfully I had those couple of seconds before to settle, feel calm to just go and get it, have no regrets and leave everything out there.
“I wish that my nan was still with me but she is in spirit and she will be really proud of me.
“To everyone at home it is extra special and hopefully I can bring a little bit more of that into the next few days of racing.”
Woods also boosted her Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification hopes with the Riversport OKC venue to host the K1 and canoe slalom competitions at the next Games in two years time.
She has now won three World Championship medals in the K1 discipline after winning silver in Australia last year and bronze in Slovakia in 2021.
Woods also won two bronze medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the K1 and kayak cross events.
