Armstrong double helps Rugby walk over Boots

Rugby Editorial 3rd Nov, 2021   0

TWO tap-ins for Luke Armstrong helped Rugby and East Warwickshire Men’s First to a 3-1 win against Boots in the Midlands Premier Division.

Adam Hewitt was also on target, with Sam Bevin taking the man of the match award.

Seconds’ captain Phil Dickinson bagged two goals and the man-of-the-match accolade but it was enough as they went down 4-3 to West Bridgford 2nds. Tom Hollis also scored as Rugby looked to stage a comeback after falling behind early on.

Jamie Carr scored the only goal for the Thirds in a disappointing 5-1 reverse away to Nottingham Players 1sts. Adam Haslam was man of the match for a strong performance at the back.

The Fourths were 5-0 winners against Leicester Westleigh 2nds goals from man of the match Jordan (2), Roman Lofthouse, David Odwell and David Manning, while Fin Calder (2), Madoc, Ed Newton and Matt Cartridge steered the 5ths to a 5-3 verdict against Leicester 3rds.

Goalkeeper Chris Gibson was man of the match, despite a 12-2 defeat for the Sixths to Market Harborough 2nds, Augustus Wenham scored two goals in the second half.

Rugby & EW Ladies 2nds earned a scoreless draw in a hotly-contested game against Warwick University 1sts in the Midlands Premier.

The Ladies Thirds were 1-0 winners against Towcester 3rds, Katherine Joss converting a penalty corner, and Krista Bennett being named player of the match on her debut, while goals from Melis Baysai and player of the match Ellie Bagshaw sealed the Fourths’ 2-1 victory against Towcester.
