We are open - vicar hammers home the message

A BREAK-in is being planned by a local congregation – at their own church.

Reverend Sheila Bridge of St Peter and St John’s church wants to open up the building’s old front door which was bricked up in 1984, and has invited the community to have its say.

Rev Bridge said the bricked up door gives people the wrong message, and too few people are aware of the Clifton Road church’s current entrance because it is not visible from the main road.

She said: “People walk by and think we are closed. Whereas in fact, there is a lovely community space inside our church which is being underused by local people because they can’t find their way in.”

Plans to re-open the door are still being discussed, and the congregation would like to hear the views of anyone in the community.

An open meeting to discuss the proposals will take place at the church hall on Saturday January 17 from 9-10.30am, where anyone interested can view the proposals, make comments and ask questions.
