A ‘LOWLIFE’ thief stole a collection tin for a Rugby charity from a chip shop.
Donations to the Rugby Area Talent Trust (RATT) were swiped from the counter of the Extra Fish Bar on Craven Road.
Police say the theft is believed to have taken place between midday on Saturday March 20 and 9pm on Sunday March 21.
And although it is estimated the tin only contained around £30, a trustee of the chairty – which supports young talented people in Rugby with grants for equipment and tuition – said he was annoyed and disappointed to see his and the public’s efforts undermined.
David Head said: “We’re not talking about an amount to break the bank, but charities rely on these sort of donations.
“So it’s not just disappointing for us, but also for the people who are kind enough to put the money in the tin.
“We want to support these young people, but we’re not a wealthy charity and we rely on people’s goodwill to support us in turn.
“Whoever did this is depriving a charity. I doubt there was any thought as to which charity it was – it could easily have been a children’s cancer charity. It’s a stupid thing to do and it undermines what the community of Rugby are trying to do.”
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact police on 101 quoting incident reference number 262 of Tuesday April 5.
