Swashbuckling pantomime weighs anchor at Rugby Theatre

AHOY me hearties – a swashbuckling pantomime version of Treasure Island is taking to the stage at Rugby Theatre.

Promising pirates, parrots and plenty of audience participation, the show follows cabin boy Jim Hawkins and a cast of larger-than-life characters as they embark on a rip-roaring voyage across the seven seas. Will Jim defeat villainous Longjohns Silver and find the buried treasure? Will the sparkling Spirit of the Ocean’s magic spells be strong enough? And will Nanny pack enough pork pies to last the journey?

Director Emma Bright said: “Expect non-stop laughter, live music and fun costumes in this action-packed tale of adventure and slapstick on the high seas.

“Tip the black spot to the January blues, polish your cutlasses and come and join us for a heartwarming adventure for the whole family.”

The script is written by local writer and performer Michael Read, capturing the spirit of Robert Louis Stevenson’s beloved story with a mischievous modern twist.

The adult cast are joined by local young dancers from the Carrie Bianco Stage School.

And audience members can get a selfie with their favourite hero, heroine or villain at a free meet-and-greet in the theatre bar after the show.

Treasure Island runs from January 23 to February 1, with discounts for groups of four. Visit www.rugbytheatre.co.uk or call 01788 541234 for tickets.
