Students fly the flag of inclusivity during National Apprenticeship Week

THE FLAG of inclusivity was flown by students at Heart of England Training’s Rugby Hair and Beauty Academy during National Apprenticeship Week.

Apprentices and full-time students marked the occasion with a focus on LGBT+ diversity.

Students designed and created their own LGBT+ inspired hair and make-up looks on models and peers.

HR Manager for Heart of England Training, Shannon McCann – who also is also the company’s Lead on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion – said: “Our aim is to nurture a culture of inclusion – to embrace diversity and to ensure that our academies and colleges are safe spaces for all of our learners and staff.

“While striving to ensure that our LGBT+ students and staff feel safe, accepted, supported and included, we also aim to support all of our learners and staff to become better allies to LGBT+ communities.”

The training provider, which has been delivering Hair & Beauty training in Rugby for over 40 years, is currently working towards the Rainbow Flag Award – a national quality assurance framework which focuses on LGBT+ inclusion and visibility.
