A CASH prize and a route into a future engineering career have been won by a Rugby College student.
Matthew Phipps won a placement working with the team that designs and manufactures Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains.
The 17-year-old from Rugby won the award for commitment in his studies, a presentation entitled Engineering & Me, and a successful interview with a representative from Mercedes.
The company’s learning and development co-ordinator Helen Brookes presented Matthew with his prize, which included a £500 cheque, a certificate signed by Managing Director Andy Cowell, a week’s work experience and, if the latter is successful, entry onto apprenticeship assessment centre interviews.
Matthew, currently studying a BTEC Level 3 in Engineering, said: “It feels great to be recognised by my tutors and the college for the hard work I have put into my studies over the past academic year.
“The opportunity I have been given is amazing and hopefully leads to a career with Mercedes-AMG HPP. I am truly grateful that I have been given this chance to get a look in to the real world of high performance engineering and am really excited for what it may hold.”
