Sales record, Rising Star, A45 closure, London show

ALL-TIME record sales of £95.4 million have been reported by the Heart of England Co-op.

The strong 2013 financial figures cement it as one of the leading co-operatives in the country, said chief executive Ali Kurji.

“Every year sees our retail climate getting tougher and tougher so I am delighted our society managed to perform satisfactorily,” he added.

“I am expecting the next 12 months also to be tough, but with the continued efforts of every member of staff I know our members and customers will benefit from the best experience which is synonymous with the Heart of England Co-operative Society name.”




THE boss of Lutterworth firm Myway Enterprises has won the Rising Star of the Year award at the FTA Everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards.

Anna Kozlowska, 26, who describes herself as a marketing specialist for logistics and transport industry, was nominated by her customers.


Maxine Benson MBE, co-founder of Everywoman, said: “As the transport and logistics industry seeks to employ half a million more people, it has never been more urgent to ensure the sector attracts more talented women.”

THE 1.4 mile stretch of the A46 between the Tollbar island and Stivichall junction will be closed overnight all week.

The closure from 8pm until 6am began on Monday and will continue until Sunday morning to allow for drainage work to be carried out.

RUGBY Ramblers go on a seven mile walk around Shuckburgh and Napton on Sunday, meeting at 9am top of Barby Road before a Wednesday evening walk around Church Lawford, meeting at 7pm at The Old Smithy.

THE one-acre garden at The Old Stables in Bruntingthorpe will be open on Sunday, June 8 as part of National Gardens Festival Weekend.

Some 350 gardens across the country will be opened to the public to raise money for the likes of Marie Curie Cancer Care and Carers Trust.

Entry to The Old Stables is £3 between 11am and 5pm.

Owners Hilary and Gordon Roberts said: “Exploring a beautiful garden has to be one of the most enjoyable ways of raising money for charity.”

STUDENTS of Jaide’s Stage Studios will be performing at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London on Sunday.

A total of 34 successfully auditioned for the performance.

Three coaches will take them, their family and friends to London for a full day of travelling, technical rehearsals, and an evening show.
