THE NEWEST school in Rugby has been officially opened by the town’s Mayor – and a celebrity canine.
The Griffin Primary School in Eden Park held its official opening on Monday (September 11) – attended by Mayor Maggie O’Rourke, who cut the ribbon, and CBeebies star Waffle the Wonder Dog, who took it away afterwards.
The Griffin is sponsored by Lawrence Sheriff School, which has formed a Multi-Academy Trust to support the new primary, with The Griffin taking its name from Lawrence Sheriff’s iconic badge.
Lawrence Sheriff Headteacher Teresa Mpofu attended the opening, alongside her predecessor and The Griffin’s Chair of Trustees
Peter Kent, Warwickshire County Council’s Education Capital, Sufficiency, and Admissions Lead Commissioners, and the pupils and families of the school.
Griffin Headteacher Alison Hine said: “It is such a pleasure to have finally opened the doors of The Griffin Primary School to our wonderful Nursery and Reception children, who have all made a fantastic start to school.”
