Rugby bookshop donated to Christian charity will become community hub

A NEW chapter has begun for a local Christian charity group after a bookshop in Rugby was donated to them.

Greater Things, who have been overseeing the operation of the Christian Bookshop in Castle Street for the last year, are now pleased to confirm they are the official owners.

The group gave their thanks to the trustees at Rugby Fellowship Church for handing them the ownership of the store – which has been operating as a Christian witness in the same street for nearly five decades. The group hopes to continue running it as a community hub.

Director and trustee of Greater Things, Rob Saunders, said: “Our team is extremely pleased to confirm that we are now custodian of Rugby’s Christian Bookshop.

“We have now been overseeing the running of the business for nearly 12 months, and we propose continuity. We have an excellent team running the shop, and we aim to give a bespoke and personal service to resource individuals, churches and educational establishments in and around Rugby, the likes of which internet shopping simply cannot offer.”

The shop is open at 10am until 4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am until 1pm on Wednesdays and 9am until 5pm on Saturdays.

Rob added: “Why not pop into the shop in Castle Street, Rugby, have a free cuppa as you browse what we have on offer and keep an eye out for news of what we are planning?”

Rugby Borough Councillor Neil Sandison, a long-time supporter of the group, said: “I am pleased they have secured their premises at Castle Street and long supported their ambition to secure the former St Mathews Church and see this neglected building brought back into community use.

“There is a demand for community access buildings that will enable the voluntary sector to secure more permanent premises rather than drift from vacant shop to vacant shop. Greater Things are now looking community partners to progress that vision.”
