Rugby adult education centre offering 'exciting' new courses this autumn

‘EXCITING’ new courses are on offer at Rugby’s independent adult education centre this autumn.

The Percival Guildhouse has unveiled its autumn term programme of classes, ranging from how Bletchley Park Changed History to Hatha Yoga for Everyone.

With new courses complementing the venue’s staples of arts, crafts, languages, creative writing, poetry and history, the Guildhouse is also opening up a new timeslot for some courses designed to appeal to ‘travelling home’ students.

For the first time, courses in Expressive Watercolour and Hatha Yoga for Everyone will be available between 5pm-7pm, in addition to courses already offered on weekday mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Centre Manager Sarah Gall said: “The Autumn Term is always exciting with new courses being launched alongside our established programme.

“A handful of courses will run between 5pm-7pm appealing, hopefully, to people who might otherwise not be able to attend a course during the day or later in the evening. If this proves successful, we’ll hope to add more courses in future.”

Full-term courses led by professional tutors include art classes, upholstery, sewing and dressmaking, woodcarving, crochet and Goldwork, otherwise known as ‘metal embroidery’.

And in addition to the Bletchley Park course, there will be a course on ‘From Page to Screen’ looking at classic novels which have also become screen classics; ‘Windows on the World’, looking at the works of seven great poets including Philip Larkin and Sylvia Plath, plus courses in creative writing and personal journeys into poetry.

The full course brochure will be available online at www.percival-guildhouse.co.uk from August 15, and in print from Rugby Visitor Centre and the Guildhouse itself. Subsidies are available for those in receipt of means-tested benefits.

The Percival Guildhouse is the only independent centre for adult education and the arts in Warwickshire, and is a self-supporting charity.
