THE LIGHT fantastic – hundreds helped to light up Rugby town centre by joining in with a festive lantern parade.
The parade started and finished at St Andrew’s Church on Saturday (December 14).
Hundreds of Rugbeians made their own colourful lanterns and headed out into the town centre, before returning to the church for hot chocolate and some traditional Christmas carols.
Earlier that day, hundreds boarded the Santa Express novelty train ride through the town centre, while being entertained by music, storytelling, stalls, face painting, Father Christmas, and Alfie the Elf.
Linda Lowne, Business Director of event organisers Rugby First, said: “The Santa Express proved a huge success, carrying almost one thousand visitors during the day and bringing some real festive cheer as it made its way up and down High Street and Sheep Street.
“It was also fantastic to see so many people join the lantern procession later in the day which looked absolutely dazzling as it made its way around the town centre.
“A huge thank you to St Andrew’s Church, the Indian Community Association, local businesses, including Mala Beds and Rugby Electrical, and all those groups and individuals who made lanterns prior to and on the day of the event.”
“If you have enjoyed this event, why not join us on Sunday January 26 in the town centre as we celebrate Chinese New Year with some music, lion and dragon dancing, craft activities and a lantern procession?”
