A RUGBY woman’s culinary creation has been chosen to join the McDonald’s menu.

The McPizza Pepperoni Burger was created by Charlotte Butcher in a nationwide contest run by the fast food chain.

It is now on sale across 1,200 UK restaurants until November 11.

The Long Lawford resident’s design whet the appetites of judges as it triumphed over 98,000 entrants in McDonald’s My Burger competition.

The 21 year old, who works at Samantha’s Boutique Bridal Wear in Dunchurch, said: “On Judging Day I was able to try out different sauces and buns to give my burger a much more authentic, pizza taste.

“I can’t believe I’ve won – that people will be able to walk into any McDonald’s restaurant in the UK and order a burger that I have created.”

Entrants were challenged to create a customised burger from over 80 different ingredients. After using an online ‘burger builder’ public votes confirmed the top 11.

Charlotte’s pizza-inspired burger made the cut with its beef patty, mozzarella cheese slices, pepperoni, lettuce, ketchup and tomato and smoked paprika sauce in a cheese topped bun.

These were assessed by a judging panel including McDonald’s UK Managing Director, Mark Hawthorne and Celebrity Masterchef winner Phil Vickery – who selected the five that most tickled their taste buds.

Charlotte Butcher’s McPizza Pepperoni Burger hit menus on Wednesday and is available until November 11 (s).
