A WASTE operator in Napton has been prosecuted after causing a nuisance to villagers.
In 2007 planning permission was granted to County Waste Limited by Warwickshire County Council subject to conditions for the use of part of Canalside Yard on Brickyard Road for waste processing.
But planning conditions were broken causing issues with mud on surrounding roads, and dust and disturbance for residents and businesses in the village.
Warwickshire County Council demanded the business clean up its act but after it failed to do so took court action against the firm run by sole director Norman Yates.
The firm has since left the site, leaving behind rubbish and waste for the landowner to clear-up.
Magistrates at Warwickshire Justice Centre considered the offences, and neither defendant or a legal representative attended the hearing.
The court fined both Mr Yates and County Waste Limited. Both defendants were also ordered to pay the council’s costs.
Mr Yates was fined £660 and ordered to pay costs of £1,286, while County Waste Limited was fined £5,000 with costs also of £1,286.
County environment spokesman Jeff Clarke, said: “While the county council will always look to promote economic growth and encourage businesses to come to Warwickshire, we expect them to adhere to a set of standards so that they contribute positively to life in Warwickshire.”
“When companies do not take the care to ensure that they protect the environment, then the county council has a mandate to step in. I am delighted that we have been able to do so here and stop the damage being done in Napton.”
