THE MAYOR of Rugby has received a donation from St Andrew’s Church to support his charities.
The £235 donation came from money raised during the church’s Festival of Christmas Trees, an annual fund-raiser which encourages businesses, organisations and schools to contribute decorated Christmas trees to create a festive forest in the church.
Mayor Bill Lewis and the Mayoress, Sue Lewis, were judges of the festival in 2019, and Cllr Lewis thanked the church for the donation to his charities.
He said: “The Festival of Christmas Trees brings the community together to raise money for good causes, a real celebration of the spirit of Christmas.
“Now we can all start looking forward to the future with cautious optimism as we continue on the roadmap out of lockdown. I hope the festival can return later this year after the 2020 event had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.”
Coun Lewis has supported Rugby Autism Network, Rugby Dementia Support and New Directions, a charity which supports residents with learning disabilities and autism, during his Mayoral term.
