FESTIVAL vibes came to a special educational needs school in Rugby as it turned its annual family picnic into something bigger.

Staff at Brooke School put on Brooke Fest to bring the summer festival experience to its pupils – some of whom will not have the opportunity to attend the real thing.

Teaching Assistant Becki Williams led a team which spent eight months planning the extravaganza.

Families were entertained by Brooke’s own school choir, Nathan and the Bridge Street Band, and students from Harris CofE Academy who performed in rock bands and as soloists, dance routines, and an act from their current musical Bugsy. The New Testament Church of God Rugby Branch Choir also performed old school classics.

Other highlights included a silent disco, splat the teacher, beat the goalie and several craft stations.

The event raised over £600 which the Friends of Brooke School will put towards new playground equipment.

Brooke School Headteacher Greg Williams said: “This was the most tremendous occasion and brought joy to many people. My only concern is that Becki is poached to run Glastonbury in two years’ time.”

Becki says she is determined to do even better next year, adding: “I’ve already phoned Oasis to see if they can make it in 2026, and I’ve also enquired if Ozzy Osbourne will come out of retirement one last time!”
