A NEW parliamentary candidate has been announced by Rugby’s Liberal Democrats, with a General Election widely expected this autumn.
The party has selected Rana Das Gupta as its candidate for the Rugby and Bulkington constituency.
A consultant plastic surgeon, Rana has 35 years of experience in the NHS and has worked and lived in Warwickshire for the last 15 years. He is married to psychological counsellor Victoria and they have three children who all attend schools in Warwickshire.
He came to London at the age of two when a military coup forces his family to leave Rangoon in Burma, won a free place at a top academic school via the 11 plus, and then attended medical school at the University of London.
He said: “We the Liberal Democrats occupying the centre ground must win the next General Election in order to ensure the peace and prosperity for our country.”
Chair of the Local Party, Coun Neil Sandison, added: “We are delighted that Rana is the Parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Democrats in Rugby and Bulkington.
“Health care, hospitals, schools and housing are all key issues for the future of Rugby, and we need an MP with the necessary skills and experience to champion these issues and react to resident’s concerns.”
MPs have twice rejected Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s calls for a General Election – but an autumn poll is expected to take place.
