THE CHRISTMAS season got off to a royal start at Rugby’s adult learning centre.
The High Sheriff of Warwickshire, Karen Lynch MBE, popped in to the Percival Guildhouse to open its annual Christmas fund-raising fair on Saturday (November 15).
She was treated to a tour of the 100-year-old St Matthew’s Street centre, where she met enthusiastic volunteers and staff.
Meanwhile, visitors rummaged through the bric-a-brac, books and toys on sale, and tested their luck with a tombola and raffles.
The office of High Sheriff is the King’s representative in Warwickshire who carries out a ceremonial role in upholding law and order, and supporting the voluntary sector to build social cohesion.
Mrs Lynch said that during her year in office she was keen to support ventures in Rugby that promoted community, and had been delighted to get to know the Guildhouse first hand.
