Heroin dealer who was caught selling drug two weeks after being released on bail is jailed

A DRUG dealer who had already been arrested for selling heroin was caught dealing again – just two weeks after being released on bail.

Adam Turner has now been jailed for a total of four years and eight months by a judge at Warwick Crown Court.

Turner, 45, of Lower Hillmorton Road, had pleaded guilty to supplying heroin and two charges of possessing the drug with intent to supply it.

Prosecutor Jonathan Veasey-Pugh said that earlier this year police officers in Rugby saw what they suspected was a drug deal taking place between Turner and another person.

As he left the scene, Turner was stopped, and when he was questioned he denied having any drugs on him.

That was confirmed when he was searched – but he did admit he had recently supplied some and that he did have drugs in his room in a shared house.

Turner, who had a phone and £40 on him, was arrested, and the police then searched his room where there was evidence of drug use, as well as 12 wraps of heroin worth £120.

When he was interviewed, Turner admitted that he would buy heroin in bulk and sell some in individual deals to support his own habit.

He pleaded guilty on April 20 to possessing the drug with intent to supply it, and was granted bail by magistrates.

But on the morning of May 4 officers saw him involved in another suspected drug deal with another man before returning to his flat.

And when he was seen leaving the flat the following day and going towards the same man, he was stopped and found to have two wraps of heroin on him.

Turner was again arrested, and this time in his room the police found a bulk quantity of heroin with a potential street price of £700.

When he was questioned, he again admitted he had been dealing to support his habit, added Mr Veasey-Pugh.

Recorder Eugene Egan jailed Turner for two years and eight months for the first offence and told him there had to be a consecutive sentence for dealing again while on bail.

But he explained that would be limited to two years to take account of the ‘totality’ of the sentence.
