Helpful students from China lend a hand at Rugby care home

HELPFUL students from China have been lending a hand at a Rugby care home.

Tricia Weng and Annia Jia – both having travelled from Shanghai to study degrees in the UK – came to Overslade House to gain some valuable work experience while on a half term camping exchange with Rugby School via the Pippa’s Guardians organisation.

The pair, who are studying to become laboratory technicians, had never been in a care environment.

They joined in with activities, chatted with residents, and asked questions about the effects of dementia.

The care home’s Senior General Manager Violetta Baesu said: “It has been so lovely for the residents to meet Tricia and Annia and chat about China and their culture.

“We always welcome work experience students and volunteers as new faces to chat to our residents and join in with any activities.

“We wish Tricia and Annia every success in their chosen profession.”

Overslade House resident Dot added: “Education is the most important and valuable thing you can have in life.

“When I was a young girl, we didn’t have the opportunities you have now – I was at work when I was 14 – so grasp it with both hands while you can.”
