Healthcare hero nominations wanted

LIFE-SAVERS and carers at Rugby and Coventry’s hospitals are to be honoured with awards – and nominations are being invited from patients.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust is calling for patients and relatives to share their stories of outstanding patient care or customer service for its 10th annual Outstanding Service and Care Awards (OSCAs).

Last year, the Trust received over 460 nominations for staff, volunteers and teams in a wide variety of roles.

Six of the teams and individuals shortlisted for last year’s awards were nominated by patients. These included Mandi Kirkman, a specialist nurse caring for patients who suffer problems or miscarriages in early pregnancy, who scooped the Compassion in Care award.

This year there are seven categories for public nominations: Going the Extra Mile, Compassion in Care, Behind the Scenes Team or Individual of the Year, Innovation or Service Development, Leader of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and the Chief Executive Officer’s Award – for an individual or team who has made an exceptional contribution.

Andy Hardy, Chief Executive Officer of UHCW NHS Trust, said: “Our staff and volunteers do amazing things for patients and relatives on a daily basis, and it’s wonderful to be able to recognise them each year at the OSCAs.

“I’d like to encourage any members of the public who have received outstanding care or service at either of our hospitals in the last 12 months to help us celebrate the staff responsible by nominating them for an award, and telling us how they helped make a difference.”

Call 024 7696 7617, email [email protected] or visit www.uhcw.nhs.uk/osca to nominate. The closing date is midday on Friday May 19. The winners will be announced in September.
