A TROT down memory lane was enjoyed by a care home resident who had a very special four-legged visitor.
Sheila Jervis, 88, was taken back to the days of her childhood when a horse named Bramble paid her a visit.
She suffers from Lewy Body Dementia, meaning she still recognises her loved ones and can stay in the moment – but her memories can get jumbled up.
Sheila, who has four children, eight grand-children and 11 great-grand-children, grew up with horses as her dad bred them from the 30s to the 50s.
And when Bramble let out a ‘neigh’, the sound whisked Sheila back in time, and she called out to her dad to come and help.
She was joined for her special day by her three daughters Wendy, Lynn and Cindy – with son Tony unable to attend due to work commitments.
Cindy, who arranged Bramble’s visit through the local Tower Farm Riding School, said: “They immediately agreed to help us make a dream come true for our Mum and for the family – especially us three sisters.
“When the horse arrived the kitchen provided us with apples and carrots for Mum to feed the horse with.
“Mum fed Bramble and enjoyed toughing her – but when the horse neighed, Mum said: ‘Dad come and sort him out!’
“The sound must have taken her back to the days when she looked after horses herself.
“I believe a wonderful life is made up of such happy memories!”
