PROFESSOR Peter Kent, former Headmaster of Lawrence Sheriff School and current Chair of Trustees at The Griffin Primary School, has been made a OBE for his outstanding services to education in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

Peter’s response to receiving this accolade was: “The award was very unexpected and a wonderful surprise. It means a great deal to me that my work within education has been recognised in this way. I would like to thank all those who have offered support and sent good wishes.’

Peter’s contributions to education extend far beyond the local sector, impacting on the regional, national and international arenas. His work in school leadership and culture has influenced many current headteachers to pursue school headships after working or studying with him.

A renowned expert in educational data, school culture and system leadership, Peter’s expertise has extended to working with the DfE, OFQUAL and the Ethical Leadership Commission. He has also been closely involved in developing education across the country through his work on data and leadership training with fellow professionals at the Institute of Education at University College London, the University of Nottingham and the University of Warwick.

During his distinguished career, Peter has also held the role of President of the Association of School and College Leaders, having led its members who are responsible for the education of more than four million young people and children across Britain. He was subsequently elected by his global peers to become President of the International Confederation of Principals, a global association of school leadership organisations, for a two year term of office on the international stage. Peter’s work continues to resonate with and influence fellow professionals in countries as diverse as Kenya, Nepal and China.

Teresa Mpofu, Headteacher of Lawrence Sheriff School, and Ali Hines, Headteacher at The Griffin Primary School were delighted Peter’s work had been received the recognition it deserved.

Teresa said: “Having worked with Peter for over a decade, I am delighted that he has received this honour as he is a truly inspirational leader. As the longest serving headteacher at LSS his work has shaped our culture and continues to have an impact. He is also one of the kindest people you could ever meet’.”

Ali added: “The Griffin Primary is so lucky to have Peter as our Chair of Trustees. His knowledge, skill and passion for education at all stages is invaluable. Having been involved in the development of our school from the very beginning, he is now enjoying seeing the fruits of all of his hard work. This recognition is absolutely deserved.”
