Fitness fanatics flex their financial muscles to raise money for life-saving charity

ENERGETIC fund-raisers at a Rugby gym flexed their financial muscles to raise hundreds for a life-saving charity.

Gym-goers raised £600 for the OurJay Foundation during a charity day at Fitness Worx Rugby.

The event featured a ‘Hyrox’ competition – a fitness challenge alternating between running and functional exercises – giving athletes the opportunity to test their endurance, strength, and determination throughout the day.

A deadlift competition also brought out some impressive strength performances from competitors, with Declan Challoner and Sophie Henry crowned the winners.

Representatives from Better Bodies were also present, helping support the day and connect with members of the fitness community.

A bake sale and raffle helped to raise the fund-raising total.

Gym manager Beth said: “The turnout, the atmosphere, and the generosity shown by our members and local community were incredible.

“Events like this show what the Fitness Worx community is all about — people coming together to support each other and raise money for a fantastic cause. We’re so proud to have hosted it here at Rugby.”

The OurJay Foundation was set up by Rugby woman Naomi Rees-Issitt following the tragic death of her 18-year-old son Jamie Rees from a cardiac arrest in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2022.

The charity has so far installed over 330 defibrillators across Warwickshire and beyond, while raising awareness of their importance and providing training in life-saving skills. Visit www.ourjay.org.uk for more information on the charity.
